Joined the Department of Computer Science at the University of Pretoria in 2006, where she leads the Polelo Research Group. Research interests are in spatial databases, distributed systems, standards and spatial data infrastructures.

Involvement in geographic information standards includes:
  • Representative on the SABS Technical Committee 71E (Geographic Information)
  • Project leader for the South African address standard (SANS 1883)
  • South African representative at ISO/TC211 - Geographic Information/Geomatics
  • Chair of the ISO/TC211 Programme Maintenance Group
  • Online information about address standards
  • Project leader for the stage zero project ISO 19160, Addressing within ISO/TC211, Geographic information/Geomatics

    Started career as a software engineer, was actively involved in the global software development teams of two GIS products.

    Later worked as project and client manager on various GIS projects and explored and developed new business opportunities such as the AfriGIS spatial & deeds datasets, and together with Property24 developed the PropertySPI reports that display sold price indexes for suburbs, streets and sectional schemes. PropertySPI reports are available to the general public at www.property24.com.

    Led the development of the Intiendo Address Toolset, an address matching and geocoding tool developed by AfriGIS. Coordinated the research and development on the product with the off-shore development team in Bangladesh.
