The Standard Bank IT Challenge held in Johannesburg each year had nine teams from across the country competing in a strenuous 6 hour programming contest last week. Divan Burger, Megan Duncan, Sunrise Wang and Karl Zöller, which made up the team representing The University of Pretoria, completed 5 out of the 7 problems and was awarded 2nd place.
The programming problems are designed to test the teams’ ability to use data structures, algorithms and optimisation techniques to solve problems. These types of problems and the techniques used to solve them are discussed at the Coders Guild meetings, held every Saturday from 08:00 to 12:00 in SIT9.
