Lecturers often receive requests from students for privileged treatment, such as online assessment, exception from course requirements or excessive help. The requests referred to, are for treatment that deviate from the module arrangements as spelled out in the module’s study guide.
The arrangements for each module are spelled out in the study guide of the module and requests for treatment that deviate from the course arrangements cannot be entertained. All students are treated equally in terms of the study guide.
Note that different modules may prescribe different arrangements. These arrangements depend on a range of factors, such as the content of the module and the number of students enrolled for the module. The fact that one module prescribes certain arrangements does not provide a basis to argue that another module should follow similar arrangements.
Note that study guides make provision for certain categories of “special” treatment, such as admission to an aegrotat assessment opportunity in the case of illness (after a medical certificate has been submitted); those requests are normal and will be attended to as stated in the study guide. Requests based on University policies are also not deemed to be requests for privileged treatment.
